Here's a photo of the 2nd day of my starter for White English Ale Yeast WLP002, and I am just wondering if the color for this yeast is normal, as it is the first time I am using it, and it is much darker than all of the others I have done.

Well, the color is going to depend quite bit on what you used for extract to make the starter.

That being said, I do think that starter looks a bit odd for 002...... generally, that yeast gets really clumpy and falls out really easily. Did you have it on a stir plate? Did you swirl it? Did you see signs of fermentation? Does it foam up and release CO2 when you swirl it a little?? Is there a yeast layer on the bottom of the flask?

It is clumpy, and is swirled regularly, I used light dme and it does foam..very thin layer on bottom of flask

It was dated July, and it was real clumpy in the container
