Hi all,

I've seen several posts on this forum mentioning the % efficiency during brewing and I was just wondering what this refers to/how you would go about determining this.

Sorry for the total noob question, I tried searching and found a million threads with people sharing their efficiencies but no explanations.

Efficiency generally refers to the amount of sugars that people are able to extract from their grain while doing an all grain or partial mash beer. The amount of sugars extracted can vary greatly based on methods of mashing, water chemistry, and other factors.

This is no so important when doing an extract batch because the mashing has already been done for you. Here is some reading on the subject:
