Efficiency question...first AG

Brewed my first AG batch, 3.5 gal. I put the recipe through Hopville. The default was 75% efficiency and read 1.048 OG. My OG was 1.047, does that mean my efficiency would be around 75%?. Also had my OG been higher say 1.052 would that have indicated a higher efficiency?

Exactly, you seem to be right in the ballpark. Leave the default setting at 75% for a few more batches and see how close they are. If you find that you are always a few points low then you can change the percentage in beersmith to about 72-73%.
