Earthy Taste

Can someone tell me why i am getting a earth taste from my brew, i dont know if it is coming from the hops or yeast. my last 3 brews i have just put the hops directly in to he boil in stead of in my hop bag, i dont know if that is my problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What are the hops and yeast?

The hops are pellets and the yeast is wyeast

I think Beernik meant more along the lines of variety of hops and strain of yeast. A recipe with times and temperatures would also be helpful.
