I must say, one of two things happened:

1) I had too much of my 12% Abbey Ale and couldn't hold my attention on the latest Bond Triller.

or

2) The flick was just too boring.

Now, I must say, I love the Bond movies! Though I must say, I am quite partial to the earlier Bonds e.g. Roger Moore, Sean Connery, Timothy Dalton...
For a modern Bond, I guess Pierce Brosnan is good, but I can't see Daniel Craig as Bond. It just doesn't have the same feeling.

Am I being drunk, obtuse, or so I need to simply need to watch Skyfall while COMPLETELY sober?

That is hilarious, I drank a few Belgian 8s before going to see Skyfall, fell asleep 2/3 in. Bought it on Blu Ray though, watched it sober, thought it excellent. Maybe completely sober is a requirement.

When I watched The Bourne Legacy, I was also a bit sh!tty. When I watched it completely sober, I liked it! So, maybe I ought to do the same? But I still feel that it'll have a hard time getting past Craig as Bond...

Skyfall was terrible. Worst bond villain and worst bond girl in the same movie. Being sober just makes it more unbearable.

Shut your mouth! :cross: That was the worst bond villian? I thought he was the best one yet!

I thought skyfall is one of the best bond movies....I also think Daniel Craig is one the best bonds yet, arguably the best.

I haven't seen Skyfall, but have the feeling one could outgrow the Bond theme at some point.

At least the different actors through time have made it more interesting though, the Roger Moore period being borderline with sheer slapstick comedy.

I'm going to give it another chance tonight. Oh, wait, check that. The Pens play tonight. So, is it a hockey game or possibly be pissed off for missing the game for what seems to be a not-so-good movie? The rental only lasts till 9:30, so it sounds like it's going to be the hockey game. Priorities. You know?

Apparently I missed this in the movie, but what was the thing between M and Javier Bardem's character? (I don't even know what his name was)

I thought Skyfall was awful. The plot was so horrendously bad and illogical, it was painful to watch.

The only redeeming part of the movie was when the chick shot bond and a bunch of people in the theater stood up and started cheering. :)

This was the 50th anniversary of the series and I think they specifically did not want to simply repeat the past.

I believe the - perhaps slightly understated - theme of the movie is that they wanted to shed some of the old, campy things that are played out now and instead make a 21st-century Bond movie. That means that they would have to center on a 21st-century threat, not another "oh no, a nuclear warhead was stolen and the bad guys are holding the world hostage" type flick. And even though hackers may not be as exciting as some other villains, they're a far more realistic threat in today's world.

Q makes a comment about goofy gadgets and there were multiple times where the Prime Minister and other high-ranking officials comment on how MI-6 is outdated and hasn't adapted.

Personally, I really enjoyed the movie - but probably mostly because of the nods to the past and the initiatives to move forward in a new direction (blowing up Bond's childhood home for example). I did not care too much for the last one, but I did really like Casino Royale. So 2/3 for Craig isn't bad.

I did not watch the movie completely sober either.

I think I may have made a poor decision to watch the hockey game tonight. I probably would have had a better time watching the movie again and perhaps gaining a better appreciation for it.

So, can someone give a small synopsis of the deal between M and Javier Bardem's character? That really confused me.

Um... He was weird and there was nothing between them? I mean sexually... He was a former Agent and supposedly one that was on par with 007 but went rogue. Apparently M had to make a decision to have him terminated and it didn't sit well with him.

I'm liking the Bond reboot. I'm glad they are shedding the extreme action to a certain degree and making Bond a bit darker and more complex. And if you want to insist that the plot is illogical, well maybe, but the ones I've seen have been much better than most of the previous plots. Most action films are that way.

the choices are NOT mutually exclusive
