Dead Mark II pump

My Mark II pump, which I bought about 3 years ago from Williams Brewing, has died. I plugged it in for the first time in about a year and all I get is a faint hum from the motor. I took the head off and the impeller turns freely and is clean. Any ideas before I throw it out?

If you can spin the motor core somehow with the head removed, give that a try then put power on it and see what happens (if anything)...
