I happened to run across a damaged keg for $10. I cut the top off, sanded the edges with a 120 grit sanding pad, installed a weld less ball valve and cpvc dip tube. I spent $50 for parts and grinder blades. Not a bad deal. I can put 8 gallons in it comfortably so it will make a great hlt. Next I'm going to buy a sight glass and thermometer.

I would use stainless or copper for the dip tube. Just my $.02... I think CPVC can handle the heat, but just makes me think that it could leach chemicals... I could be totally wrong though... Good find though!

CPVC is used throughout the country as hot water line. It's not rated for above 220 though. I have no glue holding it together so it's totally safe.
