cord grip is too big

My cord grip is slightly too big for my 14awg wire. Thinking of wrapping some of the outer insulation that ill be stripping off my sjoow cable and securing it with electric tape to make the diameter of my wire a little bigger.

Thoughts?

Entirely up to you, I suppose but when I have situations like this I always ask myself, would I keep it if I bought it like this?

The grips were part of an element with a triclamp fitting

The grip is good down to 12.5mm but my cord is closer to 9.5mm. I would return if it was just the cord grip that didn't work for me.

Should be easy enough to replace the cord grip. Maybe even just the grommet if you can find the right size.

Or use bigger wire, what size is the element?
#14 is good for about 15A; is it a 1500W element?

My advice is to replace the cord grip.
Under $5 and most hardware stores.

Yes you can try the tape thing but it will not stop water from getting in long term.
The better solution is to use #12 wire but this will cost more and probably not worth your time to rework everything.
