converting DME to LME

Noob question here,
When a recipe calls for 6 pounds of Dark LME would that also convert to 6 pounds of Dark DME? Is the DME vs LME just a preference or is the concentration of the extract different? If they are different is there a tool that will help me convert the measurements from one to another?

They're not the same, primarily because the liquid has water in it while the dry does not. googling "converting DME to LME" comes up with this handy reference:
