I bought a new chugger pump and have put one brew cycle through it so far. I can say that although it looks identical to the March 809 pump, the metal pump drive housing is far superior to the March 809's plastic housing.

I went through 2 housing on the March 809. One cracked before I wised up and decided to use the outside threads as opposed to the inside threads. I think I dropped the pump a second time and that cracked the second one. $70 worth of shipped parts for the 2 new housing, and I vowed to never use a plastic housing again if I didn't have to.

The chugger seems to be faster, though I could be wrong on that since I didn't do a side by side comparison. I will say that I managed to already drop the chugger (hey, i'm pretty clumsy) albeit only from a foot or two above the concrete. The metal housing took the fall like a champ. I can't say the March 809 wouldn't have survived the same fall, but I can say that it was a welcome change to not have to have another $35 pump housing shipped!

I think the chugger and march 809 are almost identical in cost, so just wanted to pass along my $.02 on the pumps...go Chugger all the way. :rockin:
