Cheapest hop blocker/ mesh strainer ever?

I'm going to experiment with cutting a hole in this and fitting it upside down around the dip tube in my kettle. Seems like it would be a cheap solution to adding additional filtering to the kettle. I can't seem to find what micron mesh it is but worst case, I'm out $3.50.

Anyone tried this before?

Should work fine as long as your dip-tube exerts some pressure on it to keep it snug against the bottom of your pot. I've seen a few people using kitchen strainers with the handles cut off.

Thought the same thing. It does indeed strain the hops from your wort... It does indeed clog crazy fast with any serious amount of hops. I would only use it again if I had 2 oz or less I think. Was a PITA so I'm looking for a better solution that's not crazy $$$

I use a domed false bottom in my boil kettle. It keeps out the vast majority of hops (even pellet hops) without clogging.

It's hard to find a reasonable priced source of SS Mesh.

Mine is cheaper. I just don't strain the wort at all. :rockin:

I used to, but didn't notice a bit of difference when I strained compared to just dumping it in the fermenter. It's easier, and it saves time. Win win.

I use a hop spider with nylon bag, works great for me and cost like $5 to build.
