CA background check to become a brewer???

I thought I heard on the Sunday Session that one of the brewers had a hard time getting himself and his wife licenced as brewers because she had an underage drinking charge on her record.

If I have a DUI from 8 or 9 years ago, would that be a problem if I tried to pursue a career in brewing in CA?

It's the brewery that gets licensed and not necessarily the individual brewer, so, if you want to work for Stone or Russian River, you shouldn't have a problem (unless these breweries have their own rules about who they hire).

I would think no brewery in their right mind would hire anybody with a DUI or any other alcohol related crime on their record.

As for California, never underestimate California.
