That does seem like a lot... I'm no expert but I'd venture a guess and say you don't want to steep that much in an extract recipe. FWIW my caramel cream ale (all grain) only uses 1lb of caramel 60.

I make a killer Vanilla Bean Cream Ale. My swmbo demands it on tap. It is quick and easy. It is delicious. Comes out with a bit of citrus for some reason, which only adds to the profile.

Notes
Soak 2 minced vanilla beans in 1 airplane bottle of premium vodka for 2 weeks. Add in second week of secondary.


1/2 gallon starter- 1 lb lme and 1/2 gallon water. Sit from Tuesday till Friday. Lme used is calculates into recipe
