here's an idea that may be helpful to someone on a budget who needs to insulate their mash tun.

one of those auto windshield heat reflectors made out of aluminumized bubble wrap, a ratty old fleece throw, velcro and some quick stritching will make a decent wrap.

measure the circumference of your mash tun & the width too.

i chose to just be concerned with insulating the portion of the tun beneath the handles, stopping about 2" above the bottom.

cut the reflector in two, then sandwich each piece between the fleece throw in a tri fold arangement. sew along the edge to keep the fleece from unfolding.

i used an old acrlyic blanket that was pretty coruse weaved. then sewed on some commerical velcro and "D" rings to help pull tite & fasten around the tun.

probably took twenty minutes to make and i had everything lying around the house, even the velcro!:)

having a wrap helps me to bump up the heat when needed and still have insulation . before i was using the old blanket thrown over the tun routine. i still lay a folded fleece just on the lid during a mash to prevent heat loss in that area.

hope this helps.
