As I’m getting started in home brewing, I’d like to find a way to learn beyond just trying different recipes and experimenting (although I know that experience is invaluable). Does anyone have a recommendation for a good brew book? I’d love to learn more about the process itself, what changes in the process create the variants in beer styles, what different yeasts, malts, hops add to a beer. I’d appreciate a recommendation or two. Thanks!

+1 on The Joy of Homebrewing. That's what got me started. For something more intermediate to advanced down the line I've been digging The Mashmaker by Michael Dawson. Lots of good recipes and Dawson is full of knowledge and wit!
Speaking of him you can also check out the old Brewing TV and Chop and Brew episodes. Loads of info, experience, and fun.
