Boil water pre-steeping, then re-cool?

Hey everyone,

Brew sesh tonight. Pumped.

Is there an advantage to bringing 2.5 gallons to a boil, cooling to 160 for steeping, and then re-boiling? Or should I just heat to 160, steep, then boil?

I can't for the life of me imagine that it matters either way...

It matters, in that it will needlessly inflate the gas bill.
