Hey guys, got a question about my recipe here: https://www.brewtoad.com/recipes/1040

Trying to make a clone of 10.50 and I was just curious how long you would boil this recipe for. I know boiling it down will help raise my OG due to the volume shrinking. Is this the only reason for a longer boil?

Thanks!

Long boils are also darken the wort and add a reddish hue. And can add a carmelization flavor. This can allow you to make a good scottish ale with 98% pale malt, 2% roast barley 300l and a long, long boil.

For an RIS, there is so much else going on, Id just calculate how long you need to boil down from a a full sparge amount to 5.5. gallons. Remember dont boil the bittering hops for more than 90min.
