I'm thinking of creating a big irish red ale. Some basics first:
I'm thinking:
20lb US-2row
3lbs Munich
2lbs Special B
1lb Caramel 80
0.25lbs Roasted Barley
Northern Brewer, 3oz, 60min
Tradition, 1oz, 60min
Tradition, 1oz, 15min
Tradition, 1oz, 10min
Tradition, 1oz, 5min
Should reside somewhere around 1.062 @65%eff, 14.4SRM, and 57IBU.
Do you guys think I'll get enough RED coloring out of the Munich/SpecialB/Roasted Barley combo? I love the slight raisiny taste of special B, and I hear it can give a good red coloring when used without a ton of darker malts.
- 10 gal batch
- Want a good red color
- Heavy Malt flavoring
- Balanced hops
