I bottled my arrogant bastard clone last night and had a sample. It smelled like something rotten or poop. Maybe a little dirty garbage smell too. It didn't taste good either. That's as best as I can describe it.

My How To Brew book doesn't have poop as an off flavor, so maybe I'm good?

12.5 lbs pale
1.75 lbs special b
8 oz crystal 120
1.50 oz chinook fwh
0.5 oz chinook 0
Wlp001
Og 1.072
Fg 1.018
Primary for 3 weeks

The original recipe is from zymurgy and calls for wlp007, but my homebrew shop didn't have it so I went with 001.

I've had some beers taste bad at bottling and turn out great. I just don't see this one turning out. Guess I'll wait and see. Just curious about the poop and garbage smell.

There are no signs of infection unless the poop smell is a sign of infection. Fermentation started quickly. It was kept at 68*F. I have had some yeast put out sulphur, but don't think it is that kind of smell. It could be, though.

my low fermentations always smell like poop when I put to lager. but I never smell this in ales usually

I always thought it smelled like soup. I always end up making vegetable beef soup when I brew, because the smell makes me crave it.

Nothing in the recipe would indicate a poop smell OR taste (not that I'd recognize the taste anyways...) So I would lean towards sanitation issue
