Hi all,

I got these new fermenters

I haven't used them yet. They are marked at 20lt (5 gallon ish). What's the recommended batch size to allow the fermentation and krause to develop safely without risking it to clog the airlock?

I think 17.5-18lt would be a safe bet...

EDIT: To provide more detail, I'm planning to brew an IPA with BRY-097. @ 68F

Thanks!

Whether or not you get blow off is a function of things like yeast strain, fermentation temperature, and OG, as well as headspace. But in general, I'd recommend that the total volume be 30% larger than the batch size. Or 25% bare minimum. That's enough margin for most batches.

Yes, to provide more detail, I'm planning to brew an IPA with BRY-097. @ 68F.
