I just saw this and it got me thinking about possible applications in the brewing world. I'm not sure how silver or copper would react in such small amounts, but I think it would make an interesting discussion.

A little excerpt:

By introducing silver or copper into the steel surface (rather than coating it on to the surface), the researchers have developed a technique that not only kills bacteria but is very hard and resistant to wear and tear during cleaning.

It looks like they're sputtering, which makes it difficult to produce any enclosed parts (like taps, valves, etc). Otherwise it sounds like a cool step forward in passive antibacterial tech.
