while I already have a simple but fairly effective immersion chiller I've been looking at building a better one maybe counter flow. my question is the result of insane copper prices, if aluminum is acceptable as a brew pot can it be used as a chiller? it conducts heat fairly well its soft enough to bend and a lot cheaper than copper. can it be used for a wort chiller or any other brewing equipment? I have read the stuff about aluminum brew pots being ok so it seems like it should be fine but maybe theres something I overlooked.

You can certainly use aluminum as a wort chiller. It has really good thermal conductivity, even though it's not quite as efficient as copper it works pretty well. I've never used AL tubing before tho, so I don't know how easy or hard it would be to bend to your will.
