I’m wondering if aluminum material would be adequate for a cool ship cooling / lambic style inoculation ?

excuse me if this has been discussed but I searched pretty thoroughly and haven’t found anything. Here and elsewhere...

I currently live in a somewhat humid/ tropical climate (Medellín Colombia) so I have had aluminum kettles oxidize on me fairly quickly by being lazy and leaving wet grain in them ... (albeit VERY lazy..)

Curious if there is a rule of thumb or some sort of science for time frame or cooling/ inoculating in aluminum cool ship before problems could arise?

thanks in advance 🍻

How do you plan on sanitizing/cleaning it between uses? Removing the oxide layer wouldn't be good, and most sanitizers would do this. If you can get the beer out of it before the pH drops below 4.6 (which depending on the bacteria in the air, how hot it stays, could be quite fast). You definitely wouldn't want aluminum on the wort/beer but with an oxide layer it's somewhat safe.

All of this said, if you can use stainless steel or copper then 100% do so. Aluminum really wasn't meant for this at all.
