The brewery is closed is to the general public due to a handful of reasons, traffic being one of them. It is fairly easy to get Heady Topper if that is what you are looking for (check their website). If you are looking for merch, I believe Prohibition Pig still sells the Alchemist stuff. A place you should visit either way.

They are in the process of building a new brewery/tasting room/pubish thing(?) in Stowe; the town north of where the brewery is currently. That will probably not be done for another year, if we are lucky.

Edit: Just to be clear, the brewery isn't closed as in not making beer, just closed to the public. I also have no idea, how my reply is earlier than the OP...

New Stowe brewery is suppose to be done by Thanksgiving 2015. They are in final permitting phase now, Act 250 approved, but one guy who owns a condo on that street is continuing to protest. However, his concerns (traffic) isn't a valid reason to not approve the permits. Looks like they should be fully permitted by end of this month. Construction will probably start once the ground thaws next year.

The new Stowe brewery will be pretty cool and big. They'll have orchards, hop bines, and even grains growing there (grains is just for educational purposes, but cherries, hops, and other stuff will be used in brews). Heady will be brewed at the current brewery and other brews will be made at the new brewery.

Tasting room is closed due to state permitting issue. Initially complaints were raised about parking, but after everyone started poking around the permits, the Alchemist realized they never got approved for a tasting room rather get fined/trouble by the state, they just closed the tasting room/retail front. In the beginning, they had planned on using the Alchemist brewpub as retail and tastings and just use the brewery to brew, but Irene wiped out the brewpub so they started retail ops there without amending their permits.

Jameswelch is right, and the title is misleading. The Alchemist isn't closed, just the retail and tasting room. They're still brewing Heady there.

Fresh HT is now sold from a truck that pulls into a parking lot. Kimmich gives times when the truck will be selling. They just had one last weekend where they sold a new stout called Luscious, and they also sold Focal Banger.

When the new brewery is finished it's gonna be awesome. More opportunity for people to try other offerings from them.

You can also still buy Heady Topper in 2 or 3 dozen different retail outlets. All retail outlets can be found on the Alchemist's website under 'buy'.
