With most of the usual suspects being hard to get right now I'm looking at Ahtanum to fill some shoes. Beer would be an IPA or double. Have Columbus and Nugget already but thought this would be a nice addition. I just don't see it much in recipes so I wondering what everyone's thoughts or experiences were.

I brewed an IPA up with Chinook/Warrior/Ahtanum. The hop flavor and aroma were amazing, but I steeped my grains too hot and the batch had a funky aftertaste to it (was my first beer). I guess my point is the hops were tasty, and my lack of brewing knowledge and experience killed the rest of the beer.

Not sure if this helps ya out, but good luck!

I used a lot of Ahtanum last year for IPAs and APAs and was never disappointed. It was *almost* better than Amarillo IMO. Can't go wrong.

I like Ahtanum as a flavor/aroma hop, very floral with a nice grapefruit bite. I have an IPA recipe I pull out from time to time, featuring Warrior/Ahtanum/Willamette. Probably could use it in more brews.

I have 3 ounces of this stuff and am almost afraid to use it given there isn't a lot of reviews/feedback on it.. good to know guys.

Ahtanum is a great flavor/aroma hop. I just used an ounce at knock out in my IPA and plan on dry hopping with it as well. It truely should be used more often in American style ales.

It's a great hop. Stone Pale Ale uses Ahtanum for all it's late additions. If you can find some of that around it'll give you a great idea of what Ahtanum can do.

I came up with a DIPA recipe last night with Ahtanum used in conjunction with citra and summit. I really like Great Divides Hercules DIPA with its semi-sweet, malty flavor, and so I want to run along those lines for the mash and grain bill.

Along with this, the hop bursting method has fascinated me since coming across it, so there will be will 5 additions of ahtanum and citra from 20 to 0 mins. It's the first recipe I've tried to piece together myself, and should be brewed up by the 3rd weekend in March.

Edit: Here's the recipe I'm going to try that was just thrown together.
