Hey there friendly home brewers!

So I brewed a AHS Dark Void IPA 2 weeks ago, and transferred it to the carboy last night. It smells great, FG is good... even got out the wine thief and got a taste.. not bad at all. Theres one problem, its not black. the grain bill from AHS lists the following:
1/2lb Crystal 20L
1/2Lb Crystal 60L
1/2Lb Pale Ale
1/2Lb Carapils
1/2 Lb DeBittered black

The LME was 8Lb extra light.

The instructions call for a total of 5 1/4 gallons in the fermenter...which was present. Im just wondering why it isn't even a dark dark brown. it just looks like another IPA. Has anyone had this experience before. Im trying to get in touch with AHS to ask them about this.

Thanks

The recipe as you list it (and they list it) should come out to SRM of about 20. Which is a pretty light brown.

My Black IP calculates in BeerSmith to a 60 and uses 1.5# caraIII (debittered) and .9# midnight wheat. It's black and can be.

So it isn't calculating to be all that black but maybe someone forgot to add something.

You might just have a lot of yeast still in suspension, which refracts a lot o light and might make your beer a lot lighter than it actually is. Wait until you have it in a glass before you start freaking out.
