My parents brought me back from Mexico a batch of their spectacular dark roast coffee and I'd like to add it to an ale.
I am having little luck getting started. I'm not versed enough to build a recipe from scratch so I usually find someone's who I can work from. I want a light colored ale so that the addition of coffee doesn't turn it into porter color. Can anyone recommend a good base to start from?
I am figuring I'd either cold brew and add to the bottling bucket or directly add ground beans to secondary. Anyone have a recommended method or tips to avoid contamination?
At this point, I'm just looking for some tips from more experienced brewers to avoid a costly mistake.
Thanks in advance.
