Hey Guys,
Has anyone added an 8 gallon kettle/pot BIAB equipment profile to Beersmith that they could share? I'm on the verge of moving to BIAB and wanted to be as close as prepared as I could.

Thanks!
George

For an 8 gal kettle?

Here is mine
Kettle top up water = 0
Boil off = 1 gal/hour ( this is just how my system is)
Loss to trub and chiller = 0
Top up water = 0
Batch size = 5.25 gal
Fermenter loss = .25 gal ( this one is a little short I think another batch will tell)

Beyond that weigh you kettle input the mass along with the coefficient they give for the material and say it is 8 gal. Brew a batch and see what your efficiency is, mine is set at 80.

Cool...... This is what I think I'm going to start with....

Equipment Profile: 8 Gallon BIAB (test)
Batch Size: 5.25 gal

Mash Tun Volume: 8.00 gal
Mash Tun Weight: 19 lbs
Mash Tun Specific Heat: 0.12
Lauter Tun Deadspace: 0.25 gal

Boil Size: 6.22 gal
Boil Time: 60 min
Evaporation Rate: 8.0 %
Calculate Boil Size: TRUE
Kettle Top Up Water: 0.00 gal
Hop Utilization Adjustment: 100.00 %

Trub/Chiller Loss: 0.25 gal
Cooling Loss: 4.00
Top Up Water into Fermenter: 0.00 gal

That looks good to me. From there tweak the numbers after a batch or two to hit exactly the volume you want.

What is your max grain capacity? What is your average gallons of mash water?

George

At this point I haven't tested for max grain capacity. The most I have done is 12lbs and that was full volume of 6.5 gal, this gave me a 1.060 beer. I still had about an inch or two of headspace. Hopefully next week I will get a chance to do a batch that uses 14lbs of grain which I don't think will be a problem fitting.

Curious what the lauter tun dead space represents for a BIAB setup.

^ me too but then I figured maybe it was under the FB. But then does that matter once you remove the FB?

Greetings. I am doing the same set up in beer smith for a 8 gallon kettle. The mash turn weight on the 10 gallon electric Urn that comes with beer smith standard equipment was 9 lbs 14 oz. was 19lbs you used right for the recipe you were working from?

How did this equipment set up end up working for you and did you have enough space in the kettle for everything?

This profile worked well for me, but I quickly upgraded to a 15 gallon kettle and didn't fine tune it.
