tl;dr

Buy the thing, Amazon link, no referreal take thing apart, flip two magnets over, put thing back together, attach to fan. Victory.

Stronger magnets could be used to replace the existing ones, if needed for a 5L starter for instance.

Two magnets could be removed and placed atop the other two (keep two oppositely aligned, and diagonal from each other). This may improve stability for some, and will provide a stronger flux than just two magnets.

If you've ever built a stirplate before, you're probably familiar with the annoyance of finding suitable magnets, and getting them aligned and centered properly. This thing is a disk with a stamped piece of a metal that holds the magnets in place, magnets included, and a plastic/ silicone cover with notches that hold the magnets in place. Because it's all preassembled, it's super simple to just grab one of these, and stick it on a fan with some tape or glue, and you're good to go.

You could grab one of those $10-15 fans with a speed control and usb power, or a regular molex fan and a molex to usb adapter, and have a "ready to assemble" stirplate kit for ~$20. Just add stirbar, and maybe a box.
