So I harvested the motor out of my old Bosch dryer and want to use it for powering my upcoming apple grinder so I can kick my cidermaking into high gear at the end of this summer.

This is a 240v motor with 4 wires. Two brown wires coming in, and two going out to the capacitor. Also, the ground wire is connected directly to the frame of the motor.

Is the wiring that simple that phase goes to one of the brown wires and neutral goes to the other? Remember, I am in europe so I get 240v straight out of my wall between phase and neutral. I suppose the motor direction is reversed if I just flip phase and neutral?

Well, I suppose I'll just wire it up and see if it fries or runs!

Should work if where you are you only have 1 voltage. Wire those wires to outlet and it should run. Here in the states most 240 v dryers have 120v motors in them with 240 being used for element.

a photo might help :)

OK

good to hear I was lost looking for the blue wire

In Europe, yellow-green is ground, blue is neutral and brown is phase.

The motor doesn't have a neutral wire, so the way to reverse speed is just to change the order of the phase and neutral coming from the power cord. I just used the same power cord that I had removed from the dryer itself and connected it up with a sugar-cube.
