I have a beer I’m going to brew (pale ale), is 2oz of northern brewer be too much at 60min boil? I enjoy bitter beers, however I haven’t tossed in 2oz at the start before.

Looks like you'll be higher in IBUs than a regular pale ale, but if you like it, it's your kettle.

I agree that 1.5 oz should turn out to be a bit closer to conventional. One oz would be closer still. Your recipe predicts 83 IBUs with the 2 oz load. That's hoppy IPA territory.

Try looking at some of Ron Pattinson's historic recipes. Some of those have as much as 3 or 4 ounces at boil and many with that much again midway through. Of course those are meant to be keepers not runners.

HBUs are helpful here.

2*8=x*10
16HBUs = x*10
1.6oz @ 10aa

That of course preserves the recipe's bitterness. If you want to reduce the bitterness, reduce the HBUs.
