Hi

I've just poured my first glass of IPA from my first ever homebrew batch. I've got it in a pressurised keg and when I've poured it out it was extremely frothy!

Is this just my poor pouring skills or a problem?

Beer tastes great and is clear!

It could be a few things, but my guess is that you may not have balanced your lines yet. You need to get the right ratio of line pressure + length + serving pressure + temperature. There are some resources somewhere that help you calculate it, but I've had luck serving around 10-11psi with 10 feet of beverage tubing.

Thanks but I only have a keg with a tap at the bottom - no serving tube.

I'm a total novice so am lost!

So is it a 5L mini keg?

If so, check out the Avanti Party Pub.

Congratulations on your first batch! I'm sure it tastes great and you have a huge sense of pride. Don't worry about the foam except as a way to improve the next batch.

To answer your questions:
Reduce the pressure in the keg if you can.
Slow your pour down.
Pour it down the side of your glass.
Slurp the foam off each time.
Tell everyone that the true style of an IPA requires extra head.

I've tried slowing the pour down but no good! How do I go about reducing the pressure?

Can I tilt the barrel back so no beer comes out then open the tap briefly?

Thanks for your help - I'm really enjoying it just need more experience I suppose!

How can I stop this happening again next time?
