My domestic water heater is a tankless on-demand heater. It has a "shower" function in which I can temporarily set a different temperature than what it normally runs. After 60 minutes it returns to the previous temperature setting.

I played with it and I can set it as high as 140*. Would there be any reason this would be a bad idea to use for sparging?

Ideally you want your sparge water up around 170. This helps with extracting as much of the sugars as possible without extracting tannins from the grain husks. I suppose 140 would work, you just might get a slightly lower efficiency. I don't think there would be any real negative impacts on your beer that I can think of.
