I have done two two ten gallon batches now, the same recipe both times. I have also done the same recipe in 5 gallon batchs. The efficency in my 5 gallon batches was 70% , efficency with ten gallon batchs was 83%, is this normal ? Just wondering , Thanks for your input.

if you were using the same mash tun this is normal as part of your efficiency is lost in the dead spaces of the mash tun.
For example lets say a five gallon batch has 10 pounds of grain and a 10 gallon batch has 20.
The dead space contains the "unspargable" grain in the MT which we will call
X pounds. So on a 5 gallon batch the unrinsed grains are X/10pounds, while on a 10 gallon batch X/20pounds.
See the difference?

Sorry if I over complicated things.
