“Overdosing” water on campden tablets?

I’ve read the amounts for 20 gallons and such. I’m making small batches, 1-1/2 gallons. How much is too much? My water doesn’t not taste great so we always drink bottled or use a Brita. So I brew with that as well. But Brita doesn’t remove all of the chlorine taste. I filter through two times with the Brita usually
 
I recently used Kmeta powder on a beer. I dosed at .3 grams for 8.5 gal and got a sulfur bomb for my effort. Never again.
