    Double/Imperial IPA feedback

Great feedback, folks. Much appreciated. m00ps - I agree there are a lot of posters having this same issue. Could it be we're all following a traditional IPA recipe and just amping up the grains and hops to make a Double? Clearly not working for a lot of people and probably not the right...

    Double/Imperial IPA feedback

Worth a shot I guess. Will likely do this one again without the C90 and see what I get. What's that saying? Only change one thing at at time?

    Double/Imperial IPA feedback

I'm on round 2 of this one and the results are still very sweet. And the hop aroma/flavor is (surprisingly) just not there. Possibly drowned out by the sweetness. Interested in group feedback. 13 lbs 2 Row 01 lbs White Wheat 01 lbs Crystal 90 90 min: 1 oz. Warrior 15 min: 1 oz. Apollo...

    CIP System

Is this pump still working well for you? We're looking at getting the same thing. Sump pump is not generating enough pressure to spin the ball effectively. What are you running through it? Hot water? PBW? Sanitizer? Any issues? Was reading the manual and saw "Use only with clear water. Do not...

    Crankandstein 328D jam

Thanks for all the responses and ideas. I tried mounting the motor on a separate board on hinges, so gravity would pull the mill towards the table and tighten the belt via the weight of the motor. But the mill still jammed. DRog00 - I'm feeling kinda stupid because I didn't know there was a...

Motorized Grain Mill Belt Tension Device

Think I'm running into a similar problem. Minimal grain causes my 328D to jam but the motor keeps spinning. Possibly not enough tension on the motor sheave. Is that just a basic caster on yours? That did the trick?

    Crankandstein 328D jam

Hey all. Went big on my mill and got the 328D. Picked up a 1 HP 1725 rpm motor off of ebay, and 1.5" and 10" sheaves to turn a v-belt. Planned on dropping 25 lbs of grain at a time into the hopper, but my test with ONE pound of grain was a disaster. The rollers jammed up almost instantly...

    Saison thoughts/feedback

Appreciate the additional suggestions. Would be interesting to try this one again and apply no additional heat above, say, 65 - allowing for that free rise. I may not be describing the "tartness" correctly either. Grabbing one right now to see if I can provide a better description. Please...

    Saison thoughts/feedback

Thanks for the thoughts/replies. Quaker - I pitched around room temp (68), placed it in the insulated ferm chamber and set the heat wrap to 80. So it did warm up, probably quickly. I'm a big fan of Sorachi but had a hunch it - combined with the yeast - may contributing to the...

    Wow...no love for Saisons?

    Saison thoughts/feedback

Third attempt at a Saison and while I like this latest one, the finish is still a bit too tart. Is it the flavoring hops? The yeast? Looking for suggestions on how to tone that down a tad. Here goes: 5.5 lbs Belgian Pilsner 3.5 lbs German Vienna 1 lb. Torrified Wheat -------- 60 min...

    Recipe critique: English Pale Ale

Nice. So when I asked "Give it time?", you're saying give it some SERIOUS time.

    Recipe critique: English Pale Ale

Thanks. Copy/paste error that I've since updated. Fuggles was the final addition at 0 min. But it sounds like Pilgrim was the culprit. My research said it was dual purpose, and as a flavor/aroma addition you'd get spicy and earthiness with notes of citrus. Not so so much. There is...

    Recipe critique: English Pale Ale

Looking for some thoughts on this one. Going for a British Style Ale. Brewed two weeks ago and just tried a sample. 8 lbs Maris Otter 2 lbs CaraStan 1 lb Flaked Oats 0.5lb Brown Malt 0.25 Chocolate Malt 1 oz EKG 2 @ 60 min 1 oz Northdown @ 20 1 oz Progress @ 10 1 oz Pilgrim @ 5 1 oz Fuggles...

Any first time hop growers in Northeast?

Another update... My Cascade plant reached the top of the 11 foot trellis, came over the top and back down a few feet. Harvested about 80% this week and got a nice sized bowl. :o Check 'em out. 10.4 oz wet. They're drying now so we'll see what that turns into. The Goldings are just about to...

Any first time hop growers in Northeast?

Thought I'd post an update on my hop progress. (Planted ~4/27.) After some initial concern, my hops are growing well. Or at least one of them is. Cascade on the 2 left strings, Goldings on the 2 right. I planted the rhizomes before I built the trellis, so I had to guess where the "middle"...
