Arduino instead of BCS or Brewtroller

Anyone have any projects going on using an arduino board to control their brewery? I currently use a BCS-460 but a) want to mess with arduino and b) want more control/need more outputs. My goal: -Control 4 solenoid valves (up to a total of 7 later) -Control 3 heating elements -Control 1...

    Corny Keg Fermentation Upside Down?

I generally ferment in kegs and thought of a concept that I wanted to run by the group. Normally I ferment with them upright and use a siphon to transfer. I don't use the built in pipes because of the sediment in the bottom and I don't want it to clog up. What if you fermented with the...

    Wort filter in-line?

Does anyone have any suggestions for an in-line filter? My solenoid valves and pump get clogged from time to time, which I'd like to avoid. It'd be nice if it were somehow replaceable while brewing, but I'm having a hard time seeing how that would be done.

    Help troubleshoot my setup...

The Setup: Electric kettle with hole in the bottom. 90 degree bend pipe leads to a solenoid valve and then tubing goes from it to the march pump. The march pump is about 1 foot below the bottom of the kettle. From the march pump tubing goes to a "T" intersection with a solenoid valve on each...

Heating element rust, HT/food safe silicone recommendation or other?

Hey, I've made great progress on my electric brewery, but today I noticed that the base of the heating element is starting to rust. I have run water through the system twice, and dried it off pretty well (or so I thought). I've read several threads on the matter and many people use...

    Electric Wiring Help

Hey everybody, I need some help with some pretty simple wiring questions. I'm using two 1500W Heating elements on two different 20A circuit breakers via non-GFCI outlets. Background/Assumptions: On outlet A, I'm hooking up one heating element and a march pump. Both probably won't be on at...

Help w/voting... best place to put chillzilla for flow arrangement

I'm having trouble deciding where to put stuff around my march pump. As far as march pump performance goes... what's more important... tube resistance or gravity? Option A: In-line after pump (Flow always goes through the chillzilla) Option B: Valved after pump (Flow only goes through...

Single Vessel Electric Build: 1.5 to 5 gallon batches

ScubaSteve's build was definitely an inspiration: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/single-vessel-all-electric-ns-nc-brewery-158608/ Mine is basically going to be the bastardized mini-version of his that won't look as good. My brew process is going to be basically the same. I've ordered a 36...

Dual Electric Build - feedback requested

Hey, I'm going to be building an all electric build, but I haven't seen one quite like this before. I live in a small apartment (high-rise) and we're not allowed to have grills or anything like that on our balconies (hence, electric). I thought about making an electric kettle and...

    Thermo Calculations

Greetings all! I posted this in another thread for an automated system I'm in the process of designing, but remembered there was a brew science section that people might like to see this in. I made a google docs spreadsheet that does some basic thermo calculations. Inputs (the green...

Automated/Electric 5 Gallon Setup... am I missing something?

Greetings all! I've been reading a lot from this forum lately and have made the decision to try and make an automated rig, but wanted to get some critiques before I continue. My friends and I brewed our second batch on last sunday and started talking about automation (we're all engineers)...
