Anyone else with a Cereal Killer mill?

I want it to STAY at it's tightest setting (0.025"), but it seems to float around a bit, and seems like this is getting to be more and more of an issue over time. Any ideas?

    yeast cake question

Is there any point in oxygenating a big (1.100+) wort before pouring it on top of an existing yeast cake? I know I've seen advice to do so when using any "wet" yeast (and a yeast cake is certainly "wet"), because yeast needs oxygen in it's growth phase. I'm wondering if the full yeast cake...

Anyone know if reverse-osmosis home systems can eliminate PFAS?

My hometown is just a few miles downstream from one of 3M's Minnesota plants, and local news just said our town's water supply has "too much" PFAs in it per new EPA rules. Does anyone know if a home RO system can mitigate this chemical?

    No chill, hop bittering question...

Do late-addition hops (pelletized), say added for last 10 minutes of the boil (in a paint straining bag, or hop-spider), leak enough material into the wort to continue bittering for a no-chill process, if the bag/spider gets removed right at the end of the boil?

what to do with 1 lb of GoldSwaen Munich Dark Malt

I've got a 16 oz, vacuum packed bag of GoldSwaen Munich Dark Malt 50L, and I'm wondering what to do with it! Asked a friend to "pick me up a pound of munich, eh". Was expecting Briess bonlander munich, but my vague request has led to me now owning this weird bag of grain! First instinct is to...

Anyone know what happened to BeerMaverick.com ?

I found their hop comparison tool pretty interesting, but it's been down now for a couple of days... https://beermaverick.com/hops/hop-comparison-tool/ Can't choose any hops to compare anymore :(

    candi syrup

I've got a bag of d-90 and a d-180 candi syrup, that I thought I was going to use to take a stab at a belgian dark strong ale, but after trying a well-regarded commercial beer (St Bernardus abt 12), realized wasn't really the sort of thing I was hoping to make. And now that I think back on past...

    would you bottle this beer?

It's a 2.5 gallon batch of amber ale. I'm 99.8% certain that I'd taken that faucet apart, soaked in oxiclean, and then spritzed with starsan... But after pouring the wort into the bucket, I took a sample from the faucet (for a forced-ferment), respritzed the faucet with starsan, and secured a...

    brewing website memberships...

If you could only do one "online website membership" (besides HomebrewTalk.com), would you go with: Brew Your Own Beer and Brewing AHA Something else? I'm mostly interested in curated recipes, and mostly for big dark stouts, tho not exclusively that style. Both of the sites linked have...

    unrefrigerated hops, ruined or not?

I just noticed that I'd left two opened, but taped up, 1-oz packets of hops pellets sitting on my shelf, rather than back in the freezer. There's a half ounce left in each, so it's not a huge loss if they are ruined from the lack of cold temperature. They were opened and taped back up 10 days...

    tequila / agave flavored beer?

I have a dear friend who loves tequila (and stout beer!), and am looking for recipes incorporating either (tequila, agave). Any suggestions?

    coconut extract amounts...

I've got a chocolatey stout recipe that comes out at 6.8% abv, 45 ibus, slightly roasty, that I add McCormick's Coconut Extract to at a rate of 0.2 oz extract per gallon of beer. It's awesome! Now, I've got an imperialized version of that recipe (11% abv, 70 ibus, a little more roasty) that I...

    made my first lousy beer

Somehow made my first "diacetyl bomb" beer. It's a recipe I've made at least 8 or 9 times before and has always been great, but this latest one turned out nasty -- a big load of butterscotch in what was supposed to be a nice, amber ale. I don't recall there being any "oh ****" moments on...

    Imperial Stout recipe, any feedback?

Looking for advice or comments on this recipe for an Imperial Stout... Water: London profile, with slight boost to Chloride Full volume mash, 60 minutes, at 149F OG: 1.100, FG: 1.025-ish, BU/GU: 0.7 BASE (81%) ------------ 2-row 77% Victory 2% Sugar 2% CARA/CRYSTAL (6%)...

    orange zest?

I wanted to try adding a little orange zest to a beer at bottling time. I figure I'll hand-wash the oranges, then spritz them with star-san and allow to dry, before zesting them. Should that be reasonably clean enough to add straight to the bottling bucket? My other option I suppose is to make a...

    Glue from hell

Trying to remove the labels and glue from a 4-pack of bottles from Central Waters (Wisconsin brewery), apparently they've switched from paper to shiny plastic labels (which came off okay) adhered with some sort of glue that I can't seem to remove. Hot water soak, oxi, dish soap, scrub pads...

    Gravitational Anomaly

Made wort yesterday, hit my numbers spot on for gravity & volume. Cooled wort down to 130 so it wouldn't melt my ferm-bucket, and then let it slo-chill overnight. At same time, took a hydrometer sample and placed plastic cling wrap over the tube to keep wild things out. Once hydrometer had...

    neutral bittering hops

I usually go with Magnum, but my usual spots only have 8% AA Magnum pellets in stock, which makes me think I should branch out a bit more and try something new. Looking for bittering strong, dark, malty stouts without much flavoring contribution (60 minute boil probably makes that mostly...

What's your best "fix" for a beer that finished too sweet?

I've got an Imperial Stout that seems to have finished fermenting (it's been 4 weeks and a few days). Went from 1.101 down to 1.023. And it's too sweet. I've backtracked my brew-day, and somehow* I goofed on my hops, and ended up with about 40 ibu's, instead of the 70 I was aiming for. It's...

Just finished a mash, realized I'd forgotten to treat my water for choramine!

While waiting on my wort to reach a boil, I just noticed that I'd forgotten to treat my tap water with Potassium Metabisulfite. Is the damage already done? Or am I ok, as long as it gets added before the yeast get to work?
