Grainfather Glycol Chiller 1st use error

I am using a GC4 Grainfather Glycol chiller and conical fermenter and have an error symbol when starting up. From what I've read its low glycol /water. Can't understand why this would be as I put in 4 litres of water and 2 litres of glycol as per the instructions. Any ideas?

How long should I soak Oak Chips on Bourbon?

I have done a few batches and have put both rum (kracken black & Appleton Amber) and bourbon(makers mark) into a sealed jam jar with enough liquid to cover most of the spiral. I really haven't been concerned with the volume but ensuring that the liquid soaks the spirals evenly. Usually will...

Bourbon Barrel Aging with Oak Spirals and Boil Time

I am a fairly new brewer and have been experimenting with medium oak spirals rum and bourbon soaked on a few batches. My latest venture is an imperial stout that I will be adding spirals that have been soaking in Makers Mark for over a year. My goal is a big beer that is thick chewy and boozy. A...

New fermentation equipment now no bubbles

Yes I did take an OG reading so hopefully the fermentation is all complete and I will drop the temperature and let it clear. Might be going back to my fermzilla next time so I can see whats happening and can be sure of no leaks

New fermentation equipment now no bubbles

Picked up a SS brew tech fermenter and keg fridge to better control temperature. Added an inkbird ITC 308 wifi controller and thought it would definitely improve my results. I tried my first brew using an S-04 yeast in a blonde ale dialed in my inkbird for 65 F as per the recipe recommendation...

    SSR burnout

So we decided to go back to Fotek as the footprint allows to bolt in the relay right into the heat sink. We discussed and purchased directly from a local Fotek distributor. Thought I would share the picture of old vs new. Lesson learned buyer beware when you buy off Amazon. You can see the...

    SSR burnout

Hi RufusBrewer yes they were all installed on a heat sink and there is a cooling fan also. I did read something about an epoxy that you should put between the relay and heatsink which I will probably do also.

    SSR burnout

Thanks Passedpawn. Will look these over for sure. Fotek Taiwan did respond asking for more information. Will let you know their response. I also reached out to the local distributor of Fotek for replacement pricing and insight. Perhaps they make a good quality product but are the victims of...

Hi Dtashmore yes these are mounted on a heat sink and we have a small fan installed. Just puzzling. I wrote an email to Fostek asking for an explanation and will share their response if I hear back.

    SSR burnout

Hi wondering if anyone has had any problem with the Fostek SSR. Yesterday one of them burst into flames and luckily I was able to shut down the power and put out the flames. Now the replacement and investigation as to what the root cause was. Any help would be greater appreciated

    Nottingham Yeast is not active

Hi all, brewed a stout on Monday and put in a package of Nottingham yeast into my Fermzilla. Today I see no activity at all. I took a temperature reading and its at 20 degrees C. I wrapped my Grainfather blanket around the vessel in hopes to get it moving but, when I look on the manufacturers...

Forgot the airlock on my fermzilla

Thanks Oakbarn yes I have a spunding . I will release the pressure and attach it. Does this affect the fermentation time in any way? Usually I give it 7 days then add my fruit and keg on day 10

Forgot the airlock on my fermzilla

Newbie brewer and I just realized at day 5 into fermenting that I did not install an airlock just two gas posts. Making a cider with unsweetened apple juice and safale 4 yeast. The yeast still seems to be actively bubbling. Should I release the pressure and attach an airlock? Does it need to...
