Local tap water pH is great, recipe not so much. Changes?

Hi Folks, We are very lucky here in Calgary to have tap water that hovers around 6.5 - 6.7 pH unless we are into spring runoff. Good ole Rocky Mountain water! I've created a recipe in BrewFather that is showing a pH of 4.72 and I'm into my first few tries adding Gypsum or Calcium Chloride...

    Imperial dropped in 24h....?

Hi Folks! I pitched on a red ale HB with Flagship. It was a very successful brew, got 20L out of the boil, due to the big sparge. I checked the carboy tonight and everything has dropped...I mean no airlock action. Yeast is even sitting on the spigot, and fully into the bottom. Perfectly still...

    WELT Documentary about Beer

Hi Folks, With all the lockdowns and extended stays at home, I've been discovering a ton of online documentaries to pass the time. WELT is a German company that produces some of the best I've found, and this particular doc is all about beer. Some of it is kind of geeky, but it's well-produced...

Am I getting a better seal with my new Fermonster?

Hi folks, Long time reader, and I've been posting for about a year. I'm in the middle of a secondary fermentation (quite a big Porter) using the Fermonster, and an S-style airlock. Krausen was complete, and I transferred after 5 days. ( I've brewed 12 home batches, but have always used a glass...

    Show us your Krausen!

Hi folks! Had a look through a lot of Threads and didn't really find one just about the Krausen. I'll start, because I have a doozie going on right now, after only 36h, and I'm stoked because the ingredients I've started with were a little bit 'iffy' ! :D Had the tan colour material over the...

    Well, I didn't kill it!

My first full liquid extract brew, and everything went very well. The yeasties were dormant for a while (2 days, Wyeast London Ale 1098) so I was worried that something had gone wrong. Thankfully, they were just asleep, and needed some great sorghum and malts to wake up! Woohoo! 3 more days...

    Pitched my first~!

Hi Folks, hope you're all keeping busy at home, and getting outside when you can. Crazy times, indeed! On my first foray into hard cider! Doing 19L, got a 1.090 for the initial, and I am using E1118 yeasties. I pitched 30min ago! Woohoo! Trying a Drunken Emu clone, with some extra sugar. Also...
