    Adding vanilla extract at bottling

Thanks for the input. I'm leaning towards kegging, except I don't have a free tap right now! My basement fridge is empty haha. As for the priming sugar, I knew I would need it. I just wasn't sure if I still needed the full amount, or if the vanilla extract provided some sugars to offset it. I'm...

    Adding vanilla extract at bottling

Hey everyone- relative newb here. I have about 6 brews under my belt, including one that I had to toss. That tossed batch was a vanilla cream ale in which I was supposed to rack to secondary, add vanilla extract, and let sit for a week...it got infected and went real bad That said, I'm making...

Setting up my Brew Cave. New guy doesn't have a clue!!!

I built a 3 tap keezer, and bought kegs before I ever even got a pot to brew in. I figured I prefer tapped beer anyways, so even if i didn't brew my own, commercial beer would be tasty. I've now brewed 4 batches, made 2 ciders, and am making my own AG equipment. Have fun and brew on!

My (somewhat delayed) Brew Room Build

Love the work you're doing. Quite jealous!! Hope the holidays have been kind and given you some brew time!

    Holiday Cider

Absolutely! Cranberry a little less so than the orange, but it came out amazing!

    Holiday Cider

So this has come out awesome. FG (using US-05) came to 1.02 and held. I bottled a little prematurely because I wanted it for holiday party. I decided to do this batch as a still cider. First few bottles were ok, lots of stuff in suspension. Its now been 1 week since putting it in the fridge, and...

    New York Hudson Valley Brewers

You guys part of a brew club or anything? I'm in Orange here as well, and trying to find other people to do a brew swap around here

    Holiday Cider

But I pitch another packet of US-05, and hope for the best. I'm leaving it be till Thursday. I figure by then I 'll check the FG and see where it's at. I think the WYeast I pitched initially may not have been up to the task of handling the cider, so hopefully overpitching with the 05 will help...

    Holiday Cider

I've noticed a few things: 1. I don't really get a krausen at all with cider. 2. I never get airlock activity (visibly at least) with a 3 piece airlock; but my "S" airlocks bubble like mad.

    Holiday Cider

1.062, nothing crazy. I made a 1 gallon batch with EC-1118, but used pure cranberry juice and apple juice and it was 1.052.

    Holiday Cider

Alright everyone. Chime in here. I did 4 gallons of apple juice (no preservatives), 1 gallon of Cranberry juice concentrate (no preservatives), and 1 oz of Orange extract. I pitched one packet of wyeast 1056 (american ale) after the packet swelled like a sunofabitch, at room temp. its been 48...

    First tossed brew

First thing I did tonight!! Rescrubbed, cleaned everything with PBW, and sanitized... still trying to decide what to do! I don't want to tie up 48 bottles

    First tossed brew

So I'm still really new (only 3 batches made), but I'm about to toss a batch for the first time. I made a vanilla cream ale extract kit, that I followed instructions to the letter. OG was on point, everything smelled good, tasted good...then I pitched the yeast. I used BRY-97, rehydrated per...

    Holiday Cider

I'm hosting family Christmas this year. I totally got sidetracked, and haven't started my batch yet. I'm trying to do a batch of a cranberry/orange/cinnamon hard cider. Do you think I can use the below recipe (completely untested lol) and get it drinkable by Dec 26th? 3 gallons Motts Apple...

    First Brew Help!!!

Just kegged this last night. Came out fantastic. Next time I'll up the cocoa a bit and reduce the mint a tad. Beyond that, its force carbing right now. I'll pull a pint when I get home. All in all, I'm happy with it as my first brew!

    First Brew Help!!!

Yes to hydrometer, yes to temp adjustment calculation. Did not stir, so I'll wait and see what happens if/when it starts fermenting and I take my next gravity reading in a week or so! Thanks for the replies! Beer is being drunk right now and most definitely relaxing...soon I can drink a homebrew!

    First Brew Help!!!

I did my first extract brew tonight; a Mint Chocolate Chip Stout. Recipe called for 7 lbs of LME 2.5 gallon boil, and topping off in fermenter to hit 5 gal. OG was SUPPOSED to be 1.059 After all was said and done, I took my hydrometer reading and it came in at 1.120! HOLY CRAP! Now...

    Fermentation help

So I'm a noob. Never brewed a damn thing. Last christmas, I was given a hard cider kit; and I just made it. I used 1 gallon of motts apple juice, poured it into a sanitized 1gal glass carboy, and pitched the yeast (expired). This occurred on 10/26. I moved it to my boiler room, w/ a 3...
