    First all grain BIAB

25% seems REALLY low. Even if you didn't crush the grains well enough for BIAB, that's still unreasonably low. Are you sure you converted the recipe correctly? There must by other factors which your missing besides grain crush.

    Beer Enhancing Sachets

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/915128700/hop-theory?ref=popular Seeing a lot of beer and homebrew related kickstarters recently... What do you guys think? I personally don't think I would ever use this as I'm a firm believer that each beer is meant to taste like the brewer...

    Kickstarter Spectrometer

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/903107259/scio-your-sixth-sense-a-pocket-molecular-sensor-fo I pledged for this when it first came out, seemed pretty cool and possibly useful for a number of different things. Now that I've gotten into homebrewing, I was wondering if this might be...

    Bray's One Month Mead

I'm so frustrated as I can't seem to find the right nutrients at any of my LHBS. One shop carries calcium BIcarbonate, but reading other posts that doesnt work. I also can't find Fermaid K, just Fermax (which I assume is similar?). I can source DAP quite easily, as both shops I...

    Bray's One Month Mead

I'm not sure if this has already been asked, but can I just use Wyeast Nutrient for the SNAs instead of all the other nutrients combined (fermaid, DAP, etc.) My understanding is that the wyeast blend has a pretty good combination of all the required nutients. Also, what yeast would you recommend...

    Secondary Fermentation w Flavourings

right! So I guess I'm doing exactly what I need to be doing then! Thanks for the input, looking forward to trying my first batch!

    Secondary Fermentation w Flavourings

Sorry, I meant in the sense there are still residual cultures within the kombucha even after the scoby is removed that continue to work for the secondary fermentation...right? What do you mean you keep flavorings separate? This is my first batch so don't know what to expect, but I think I...

    Secondary Fermentation w Flavourings

If I am using frozen fruit do you think its okay to just drop them in the jar right from the freezer, or should i let them thaw a bit since the temperature might shock the scoby a bit?

How to make Scoby without using kombucha as starter?

As far as I understand it, most commercial Kombucha available currently is not good to make your own SCOBY as it is pasteurized in some fashion to prevent further fermentation during bottling as they did not want to sell overly alcoholic Kombucha in order to avoid alcohol regulations

    Secondary Fermentation w Flavourings

Underway with my first ever batch of booch (1 gal). Used organic black tea, organic cane sugar, and a nice fresh healthy SCOBY I got from another seasoned brewer. It's currently in a nice glass 1 gallon wide mouth mason jar. I plan on adding some frozen organic fruit (strawberry and mango)...

No carbonation in my latest batch

How old is your SCOBY? sounds like it's giving up on you :(

    5 gallon poland spring bottles?

I wouldn't use them as they aren't designed for fermentation. The alcohol in the beer might cause leeching of plastic and chemicals that I personally wouldn't want in my brew. The other negative aspect is that unlike glass, plastic containers are somewhat permeable to oxygen and as such a small...

Converting 1 Gallon mash/sparge into 1 gallon BIAB recipe

I was initially thinking of this, but I guess I started over-thinking/over complicating the process more than I needed to. I'm not going to bother adjusting to my system simply because I don't know my system all that well yet as I've only gotten one brew under my belt and since then have...

Converting 1 Gallon mash/sparge into 1 gallon BIAB recipe

Hey everyone, have 2 successful brews under my belt. First one was a 1 gallon Brooklyn Brewshop kit, that turned out great. I did that one as per the instructions, which is essentially a traditional separate mash and sparge process. I have since invested in a 2.5 BIAB setup. Before I start...

First Brew Completed. Outstanding Success, I'm hooked

Way ahead of you haha! A week after my first brew, I went to my LHBS and invested in all the equipment to brew 2.5 BIAB. I decided on 2.5 BIAB because I felt that was a good compromise between yield and the space I have available (I live in a 680sq. ft condo with my girlfriend.) I...

First Brew Completed. Outstanding Success, I'm hooked

Just tasted my first batch ever, an American Blonde Ale kit from Brooklyn Brewshop. 3 weeks in primary and 2 weeks bottle conditioning. Put one "sample" bottle in the fridge overnight. Just finished drinking. I had no idea what to expect, I have always wanted to try brewing my own beer and...

    Sodastream to Disposable Cartridge Adapter

I wonder if it would work if I can use 2 separate adapters...one that converts the sodastream to paintball thread, and another that converts painball thread to the disposable screw on cartridge threads. Then again I could probably buy a paintball tank with the price I will spending on...

    Sodastream to Disposable Cartridge Adapter

Hello, I ordered a portable C02 regulator that takes the disposable screw in C02 Cartridges. I own a sodastream with the C02 tank, and I was wondering if there is an adapter that would allow me to connect the sodastream tank to the regulator. I have seen plenty of adapters on the internet...

    Kickstarter Kegerator

Just pledged. Looks like exactly what I was looking for...I brew small batches and this will be great for bringing my brews to others, also just dispensing at home! Lifetime warranty on the vessel, can't go wrong. For a similar setup with a regular keg/regulator was about the same price...

    Seal leak in Wort Chiller

I'm not that good at soldering. I did use my carboy to wrap around when making the coils, but just the way the copper was packaged it was all twisted so it kinked at some spots, despite me being careful. The leak is coming from the actual middle of the chiller off of a kink. If I ever make a new...
