So... Grabbed the wrong yeast packet. Anyone ever used Lalvin D47 in a red wine?

Just put a Winexpert Sangiovese kit together, and managed to grab a packet of D47 yeast from my stash when I was putting it together. Didn't realize I grabbed d47 until I was done rehydrating and already pitched. Has anyone ever used d47 in a red? How did it turn out?

    Noooooo...

RIP, about 1/2 gallon of Kolsch. Also, RIP the rest of my morning while I clean this mess out of my kegerator. The air circulation fan was splashing it *everywhere*, which means a complete teardown. *Sigh*

    Peracetic Acid sources?

Does anyone have a source for Peracetic Acid? Looking to change up sanitizers periodically and can't seem to find a source for it on a smaller scale.

    Things you shouldn't do...

Well, I finally did it. I was doing a cleaning cycle on my electric system, and was at the end so I was pumping the cleaning solution out into a bucket. I smelled something funny, looked up and said, "Hey, why is there a festive orange glow coming from my kett..." which was quickly followed...

Schematic for electric RO system control - Sanity check?

I'm in the process of setting up my RO system to use a non-pressurized storage tank. I've come up with a high and low float switch setup using a relay and a latching circuit; it looks good to me but I'd like a second opinion and a sanity check. My half-assed schematic is below. The idea is...

New Jersey Stainless Inline Chugger + Extras

Chugger pump with the stainless steel head. I'll also include a ball valve and a handy foot switch to switch it on/off. Just took it apart to clean it all out, and replace the teflon thrust washer. Works great, I just don't need it any longer. New they're running about $150, this one comes with...

    New Jersey Avantco IC3500

I'm selling my barely used Avantco IC3500. It's a 220v Induction cooker. Used this to do a few batches before I decided to go full element-in-the-kettle electric. Works like a champ. Requires a 220v 20 amp plug. I'm including a 10' extension cord for it that doesn't have a male end on it, so you...

A newish type of PH meter from Hannah

Has anyone seen/used one of these yet? http://hannainst.com/halo-ph-electrode-for-beer-analysis-fc2142.html Seems interesting. Claims it can be used at mash temps with no issue. Accuracy claims to be ±0.005 pH / ±0.3 mV. The resolution throws me for a loop the way they have it listed...

New Jersey 5 Ventmatic Faucets for sale

I've got 5 Vent-Matic stainless faucets for sale, including 1 growler filler. Three used, cleaned on removal. Two never used, brand new. Asking $175 + shipping for the whole package. Will consider separating if I have enough interest to sell all 5. In that case, I'd like $35+shipping...

Maiden voyage with my Malt Mechanics Conical

So far, so good. Added on some different hardware before the first use. Got a batch of Dark Mild in it.

    Finally got a conical.

Got on board the Malt Mechanics kickstarter for a 1/4 barrel fermenter. It finally arrived! I made a few substitutions on the hardware they provided, though. A couple of odds and ends from Bobby at Brewhardware. The butterfly valve, the ezclean racking port and the gas ball-lock on top for...

    Fruit Crusher Reviews?

Has anyone used this type of fruit crusher? Italian Fruit Crusher Does it work well for apples and/or pears? How fine is the pomace? Better yet: Any suggestions for a fruit crusher that won't break the bank?

Mill Question: Keep my 2 roller, or upgrade to a 3 roller?

As the subject states. I currently have a Monster Mill 2 roller. I've been debating the upgrade (Is it an upgrade?) to a 3 roller mill. Right now I condition grain and mill at .039 for my BIABasket setup. No issues with stuck recirculation, and I regularly get around 88% mash efficiency (as...

Alternative uses for brewing equipment in child care.

Today, I was cursing the horrible accuracy of the digital oral thermometer I was using to gauge my daughter's fever. It was all over the place! Swings of ±3 degrees. I decided to order a better one, but I needed to asses her temperature now. I have some NSF certified thermometers from...

    RO Water Storage

This is mostly directed at @Buckeye_Hydro but anyone feel free to chime in. I have a pretty decently sized RO system. Currently I have a 14 gallon (Actual storage is somewhere between 10-11 gallons) pressurized storage tank. The system provides brewing water and drinking/ice maker water for...

    Vienna Lager water profile question

This question is mostly directed at @mabrungard or @ajdelange, but feel free to chime in. Brewing a Vienna Lager today. Using Bru'n Water spreadsheet, was wondering what profile would be most appropriate for it? I was leaning towards the 'amber balanced' profile. Thanks for any guidance.
