This is always a fun time of year for hops. Especially when a guy down the road tells you he doesn't have time to harvest his hops and come get them unfortunately a good bit were past their prime. This is a variety of cascade centennial and something else. Got around 5 lbs of hops total. The...

    Brew Cave Advice!

Ok... So I have 2 viable options to setting up the brew cave. My basement is not moldy by no means, however it does not have a standard door etc. The side door is just 2x4's tied together basically with a pin to hold it shut. That will eventually get upgraded. At any rate My house is 100+ years...

    Fat Tire Clone Update

I know its been a while since I've posted. The holidays + vacation + semester starting has had me a bit on the busier side. However I did get a little bit of a response from the brewery on the recipe. Could not really tell much more than the obvious ingredients that are in all of the others...

    Barrel warmers?

I'm wondering if there is a go to, or reasonable priced barrel warmers for plastic fermenters? The temp is taking a turn for the COLD here for the winter, I know it is great for the beer to be stable, so I was curious if anyone had any suggestions? My room temp is often 60 degrees during the day.

Do i need to rack to secondary?

I'm a beer making kind of guy. Recently SWMBO wanted to get a wine kit to give it a try. This is an island mist kit that came highly recommended from 3 different brew shops. I got a larger primary fermenter specifically for wine. But after reading the kit it says to rack to a secondary for 2+/-...

    Morebeer.com thoughts?

I have ordered from midwest, and austin home brew. It is my birthday in a week and a half... and SWMBO has found morebeer on her own and sees that it is cheaper (for the most part) than austin home brew. Is the quality close to the same? She is going to surprise me with a kit (or two from more...

    Thoughts for a 2.5g batch

just thinking about an all grain batch

I'm debating whether or not i should jump into it. I dont have the equipment to do 5g all grain brewing.. however I can certainly do 2.5 gallon batches which would be sufficient for me. It also seems there will be less 'wasted' if i am terrible at it :) looking @ some of the forums it seems...

    Pumpkin Ale... not real pumpkinie

I wouldn't say the beer is 100% ready yet.. but its pretty darn close. I dont have much in the way of the pumpkin flavor. I am picking up the cinnamon and nutmeg flavors however. And the grains are lovely. Next time would it be more beneficial to use Pumpkin Spice over pumpkin extract? Seems...

    why so hoppy!?

I'm still trying to figure out what put my pumpkin ale over the top with the Hops. It should not be too overly potent as I did the recommended via the recipe. Mt Hod on boil - and cascade at the last 5 minutes. I just sampled it at 21 days and its still ready to kick my arse. Should this ease up...
