Been stupid busy and not back here since my last post. Zeus has been with me since late June. He just showed up on my property and started playing with my pack through the fence despite being emaciated, filthy and (later found out) heart worm positive. Went to get him fixed on December 22 and...

Too lazy to find my older posts and well, having a moment. Zeus is doing well and is mostly confident enough to start relay gentle, all positive reward training (second picture). He gained 12#'s and needs to gain about 8 more. His lungs still have too much inflammation to put him under for...

He is FREEEEEEEEEEEE. Pictures to follow. Last night he ran and played and tripped over his own feet at high speed. He was in heaven. Renter said he can't get him inside today at all (it is a gorgeous day). Another plus, after change his food a few times we found one he is gaining weight...

2-4 month process/torture. So yeah, that preventative does not seem so expensive or inconvenient (not that it ever really was).

And Zeus had the last treatment Wednesday. Just 28 more days of steroids and inactivity. Still has not gained weight so the Vet told us to go up 10% on the food...puts him at over 6 cups a day. Conversely, my Saint Bernard outweighs him by 5 pounds and gets 3 cups. Zeus looks like he is...

Invested in a Medium and X-Large softcone almost 12 years ago...best investment ever. The medium will fit the neck of all but our Saint Benard but won't keep the big dogs from being able to chew on their back paws and stuff...works great for eyelid surgeries and such but still lets them...

I think I figured it out...he is shedding more that my Pyrenees mix so he is lossing about 3#s of hair a day.

Still a bit smaller (weight, not size) than the other great cuddler in the house...his 115# St Bernard sister.

Long time since I posted since...life. Zeus, the GIANT heart worm positive dog I adopted is 2 weeks into the actual arsenic part of the treatment. He is doing mostly well but after the initial lack of interest in everything (5 days) keeping him inactive and calm with three other dogs is as...

No sleep for me. Two pups are on downers and one on a double dose of benadryl...still only the unmedicated dog is not barking in every direction from the fireworks....and it is not dark yet. I never really enjoyed the 4th after I was about 12 (worked it after 18 until 35 as it is high income...

What came in the mail for you today?

Most of mine have it and all my (stolen from me 9 years ago) old ones from the 1990's had it. They lock open.

Lab mix? Try to keep him lean and active...he could be with you two decades!

Update on Zeus...he is awesome and just needs more positive human contact. Eventful evening as my little guy, Gus, some sort of border collie terrier mix, continues to struggle with his place in the new pack order. Hera decided to assert dominance during play and flipped Zeus on his back...all...

we did that with our lab/dane mix when she tore an acl (doggie equivalent). Great experience. I work too much, have a race coming up and the nearest place is in Indianapolis...if time is money, my vet is cheaper. If time and the access to vet that gives me meds at cost for my rescues...

Finally, can you keep a 10-16 month old dog with a new pack and love to run inactive for 34 days?

Cost for 105# dog is $1500-4000 and odds of survival IF you can keep them inactive is about 80-95% depending on age and condition. Finally, if heavily infected they will have lifelong heart and/or lung issues in about 40% of cases. If you step back and consider I am serial...

TWICE a reply got deleted...once a Windows update and then an internet outage. Short version...worried about everything on page two of this article regarding limiting activity. http://www.vetstreet.com/dr-marty-becker/heartworm-treatment-for-dogs-what-you-need-to-know

Well he did great at the vet but a mix of good and bad news. He is heartworm positive but despite my reservations I am going ahead with treatment...because, he is also 12 or less months old. We had a big boomer move in right after I got home from work and I did convince him to come inside. He...

Zeus is almost coming in the door to the house at feeding time now...stops a little closer each time. Still have not figured out what he is a mix of but it is hound (based off his baying) and likely a Mastiff based off his build. Vet had an opening so he goes in for the heartworm test in a...

He did great at the groomers and is lighter by 15 ticks. He now lets us pet him (on his terms) about 50% of the time. We really is 100% part of the pack and about 60% part of the family. He still has not come inside and he goes to the vet tomorrow but unless he is heartworm positive, he...
