    Florida PH Meter For Sale

**SOLD** I'm selling my Milwaukee MW102, I've only used this once. Comes with everything included as new (including buffer solutions). The probe has been stored in solution the entire time. I recently picked up the PH56, which is very similar as far as accuracy goes. $75 shipped...

    Mash PH too low?

I'll try and keep this short...I went back and forth between two brewing software systems to try and predict my mash PH. I also had a nice conversation with Ed Coffey (Ales of the Riverwards) about how he is treating his water...in particular for this clone...

    No Sparge Efficiency Loss

I am considering no sparging my upcoming English Mild recipe. I have heard mixed opinions on how much efficiency folks are losing when choosing no sparge over batch sparging. How much have you seen from a loss standpoint? How much extra grain are you using if any to offset this? I should...

    Metal Shavings from Mill Rollers

I noticed today after cleaning out my mash tun that I had some shiny metal bits below the bottom of the screen. This has happened before (previously with the Barley Crusher, now while using the Monster Mill) and I didn't see anything make it to the final product. Has anyone ever seen any...

    Lacto. Starter

Still perplexed as to whether this is working or not. Used a vial of Lacto. D. and a liter of apple juice (boiled) with a liter of soda water on top of it. Airlock and temps kept around 100 for 48 hours now. I don't see any activity on the top at all. I do however see this on the bottom...

    Lacto. Starter

What would be the difference is doing a lacto starter with raw grain compared to pitching a vial of lacto in the starter instead? Secondly, how important is an airlock on this type of starter compared to a piece of tight foil over it like I normally use for traditional starters?

    Grain Crusher Roller Issue

Upon furthering inspection, I did get some additional flecks picked up from the rollers. Also, when I pulled the mill off the mill base, I saw a lot of metal flecks there. I'm not sure where these are coming from as they in a strange spot.

    Grain Crusher Roller Issue

Makes sense, but I hand crank and like you said, that wouldn't make it into the bucket.

    Grain Crusher Roller Issue

The rollers are steel. Everything else on it is aluminum and wouldn't react with the magnet. I'm going to take a closer look today.

    Grain Crusher Roller Issue

I agree with you. Considering there was quite a bit at the bottom of the mash below the false bottom leads me to believe it dropped down there and didn't get transferred over. Based on some advice from someone, I've gone the extra OCD mile and taped some rare earth magnets around the fermenter...

    Grain Crusher Roller Issue

Good to know at least one other person has had this issue! I think it's more common but people don't catch it like I did today.

    Grain Crusher Roller Issue

Noticed this morning (cleaning out my mash tun) that there was a small amount of metallic flecks at the bottom of the tun. After checking a few things and ruling them out, I ran a pound of grain through the Barley Crusher again. Ran a rare earth magnet through it and knew the problem right...

    Chest Freezer 101

I considered placing the probe in water, but this won't account for the beer temp rising during fermentation. Perhaps I'll just set it a few degrees lower during the first 72 hours and set the probe anywhere in the chest freezer.

    Chest Freezer 101

Any chest freezer experts out there? I'm using one as a fermentation chamber and have an Auber TD 100 temp. controller. I have just been testing this tonight and find that I'm chasing the temp quite a bit although my actual temp isn't moving much. I'm using a small piece of bubble wrap with...
