New Corona, 1st crush! Can you help evaluate?

Thanks, guys! Great to know. I basically did it with the "tighten until you're scared, then tighten a bit more" mantra. Looks like it worked out. :) I'll have to see what kind of efficiency I'll pull from them now. Thanks again for all the help!

New Corona, 1st crush! Can you help evaluate?

Hey guys, So I decided to crush my own grain. After going through the very informative and hilarious "My Ugly Junk" thread, I bought a Corona mill. So before I go ahead and rattle off 10 lbs of grain, I did a test run with a lb of 2-row. Can you guys take a look at my crush and let me...

    English Ale Recipe Help?

Hey guys, Just helping out a friend with a brew and he was looking at making this 5 gal PM recipe. Thinking something Abbot Ale'ish?: 3lbs MO 3lbs Light DME. 0.5 lb Amber Malt. 0.5 lb Crystal 60 EKG hops (not sure of quantities or schedule) Safale S-04 Does anyone have any advice...

    IPA flavor degradation

This made me chuckle. Picturing beer having a breakdown...maybe it was hop tears and stressed yeast causing your off-flavors? :D

    Cinnamon Sticks In Primary OK?

Hey guys, Just a quick question. I'm brewing a winter warmer this weekend and am planning to add cinnamon sticks ~5-flameout. My question is: Can I put the sticks in the primary or do I have to remove them? And if they can be left in, can they stay in there until bottling? I've searched...

    Extract FG Question

Interesting to know. Another learning experience. That's why I love this place. Thanks for the help, too! Nice Red Green av, Yooper. A regular staple up here in the Great White North. :)

    Extract FG Question

Yes, that's correct. The kit had 1lb of dextrose along with the 4 lbs of DME. I probably should have used the Mr. Malty Calc and pitched just over a half pack?

    Extract FG Question

Hi folks, I just recently made a West Coast IPA DME kit where I hit my OG dead-on (1.064), but my FG was lower than expected by 8 points (1.007) based off the kit's estimate (1.015). I fermented pretty much the whole time between 62-64. Although I'm not too worried because the sample...

    Sweet stout waaay overshot OG?

Thanks for the input. I just used the stovetop method for brewing it. Filled my kettle to 4 gals, steeping grains until it hit 170. Pulled them out, continued until boiling. Pulled kettle off heat, added DME, stirred like a mofo, and returned to boil. Added hops and lactose, continued to boil 30...

    Sweet stout waaay overshot OG?

Hey guys, I brewed a 3.5 gal sweet stout kit that appears to came in way over the OG than the kit suggests. It was listed as 1.056 for OG (1.014 FG), but after the boil, I ended up with it at 1.074! Is this normal? I have 3.5 in the fermenter per the instructions so I don't think it's a...

    Hefeweizen Yeast Stressing

Thanks a ton, guys. That's really good to know. I think I'll take the advice, ditch the stressing and just go with the appropriate strain and ferm within its high range. :mug:

Anyone else NOT getting hangovers from their homebrew?

Nothing a little pedialyte can't prevent, a half-hour before bed. Works like a charm!

    Hefeweizen Yeast Stressing

Hey guys, I'm looking to experiment with my next Hefeweizen batch in an attempt to make a banana bomb. I'm thinking about stressing the yeast by underpitching, little/no aeration and higher temps (74-76 ish?). My only concern is with doing this, is turning this banana bomb into an Orville...

    CO2 Bottle Threshold Question

I'm with you on that one. I think I may just go with the lower carb level for this batch to be safe. Since Hefeweizen's have a carb level (from what I've read) of 3.5 - 4+ volumes, do you forsee any noticeable differences in taste dropping down a half volume to 3?

    CO2 Bottle Threshold Question

Thanks, Bryan. That's some great info. Yeah, I just wasn't sure because the Lezajsk beer bottles felt lighter than the others so that's good to know. The caps I'm using I believe are just the run-of-the-mill crown caps I got from OBK...

    CO2 Bottle Threshold Question

Hey guys, I'm going to be bottling a hefeweizen this weekend. I have an assortment of 500ml bottles to use for this. Now most of them are pretty thick but a have a bunch of Lezajsk bottles that I am wondering if it would be able to withstand the 3.5 volumes of CO2 I'm planning to use...
