    Melted Heating Element

The element failed because it ran dry. Low density design or stainless sheath would not have prevented this. Basically the element sheath melts, any moisture that is introduced to the magnesium oxide powder within the element will cause an electrical short to the sheath and will also expand...

Problem Boiling 4 gallons with a 2000 watt element

If you have a multimeter measure the element resistance. It should be around 7.2 ohms. This would confirm that it is indeed 2000w at 120v

How to control the boil kettle?

You can use what is termed as a PWM control ( basically a rotary dial device ) that controls the input signal to an SCR, effectively controlling the boil. They are very cheap to build if you are able to solder electronics. Jim

380V water heater element running with 220V to reduce power?

The formula is 220v squared divided by 380v squared or 33.5 percent of 9000w you will get 3016 watts out of the element Jim

    Lagering Idea

Hi I have been in the electric heating business over 30 years and have a few concerns. First, simply wiring up an element of some sort may or may not heat the space depending on enclosure design.it simply depends on heat loss of the enclosure as compared to the wattage of the element. A...

STC 1000 temp controller Keezer, kegerator, fermenter

The STC1000 uses an NTC ( or thermistor ) type sensor, not a thermocouple. This is why sensor leads can be extended without special wire.

Why not just use an old yeast bottle ( white labs ) just drill a hole in cap and tape to side of keezer. Mine works fine. Jim
