Ok sweet, thanks for the recommendation, I do love hoppy :mug:

    My first SMaSH recipe

Gotcha, I have little experience with munich so that's why I ask. I'd rather have a more hoppy than malty taste, I guess I should just brew up a batch then tweak it after I get some experience. Do you think 84.9 IBU is enough for straight munich at 1.074 OG? Should I add more hops than that? Oh...

    My first SMaSH recipe

Yeah, I've never used munich as a base malt so I was kind of winging this one. On beersmith I just chose the malt that says munich, origin germany, 9.0 SRM. Which of the munich malt are the least malty?

    My first SMaSH recipe

So, I was originally going to try brewing a DFH 90-minute IPA clone, but since amarillo hops are so pricey right now, I've decided to brew my first SMaSH ale. Let me know what you guys think..... My favorite styles are amber and IIPAs so I kind of mixed the two Recipe: All-grain Yeast...

would WLP299 be a decent yeast for a DFH 90 min IPA clone?

Yeah, I'm going to start buying nearly all my hops by the pound. When hops are 2-3$ per oz thats about 30-50$ after you buy a pound in ozs... or you could pay $10-20 when buying as a pound. Seems like the way to go in my opinion. http://www.hopsdirect.com/ seems like a pretty good site for this.

would WLP299 be a decent yeast for a DFH 90 min IPA clone?

Ok I will just do the rubber maid container idea. I just stuck my brew that I made 2 days ago into the rubbermaid tote. Just adding ice and keeping it around 65F. I'm just gonna scratch the whole 90 minute IPA idea altogether based on the fact that amarillo hops are so expensive right now. I...

    "Russian" Imperial Stout

I don't believe that there really is a difference. Like daksin stated, they are pretty much the same thing, but possible an imperial stout might stray from the regular RIS requirements, while still be considered a big stout. If you enjoy imperial stouts the rasputin russian imperial stout is a...

would WLP299 be a decent yeast for a DFH 90 min IPA clone?

So, I'm getting a big head start on my next brew, which will be in the next couple weeks. I plan on brewing up an AG Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA clone, and I want to use WLP299 yeast (http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?products_id=13305) instead of what is recommended (WLP007)...

    Grain question

I mashed at 155*, after talking to original recipe creator, he said he originally mashed at 152* but would recommend a 155* mash instead. I guess I read his original post wrong which is why I was considering 160*. I should have measured my mash and sparge water out exactly. Instead I kind of...

American Pale Ale Red Chair NWPA clone

It's still going ha! I messed up... not quite sure where.. I was supposed to end up with 4.4 gallons before boil and boil down to 3 gallons, but I ended up with 5 gallons before boil and had to boil out 2 gallons to get down to 3 gallons... So my boil ended up lasting about 120 mins. That...

American Pale Ale Red Chair NWPA clone

Sweet, I'm going to brew this up today, just returned from my local HBS and got my ingredients to do a scaled down, 3 gallon brew. My brew kettle is only 5 gallons so I guess I'm stuck doing 3 gallon brews until I get a bigger one. This will be my first all grain, so I'm pretty excited.

    Grain question

I will be getting a bigger kettle soon, for now I am just going to do a couple different 3 gallon batches. Went to the brew store and got my ingredients for a 3 gallon scaled down version of this recipe. That 15.5 gallon keggal looks pretty sweet, I may just have to save up for that one.

    Grain question

Nevermind, I found the scale recipe button. I'm just gonna do that batch at 3 gallons today, it should also be a good to do my first all grain in a smaller batch anyway, just incase I screw up, I'll lose less. Thanks for the help :mug:

    Grain question

If I just cut my brew down to 3 gallons, is there a way to have beersmith change my recipe automatically?

    Grain question

I did just find a turkey fryer at walmart with a 30qt kettle for $45. The restaurant supply store wants $110 for a 36 qt aluminum kettle, that is just ridiculous. I could possibly buy that turkey fryer in the next few days. If I can't boil in two separate pots then I'll just wait until I can...

    Grain question

would it be at all possible to have 2 seperate kettles boiling at the same time? I have a 20 qt and a 16 qt.... The cheapest 32qt kettle I can find nearby is over $100 so that won't be an option at least for a month or so.
