First Lager - few post fermentation ?'s

It did drop to 1.010, but its clean, maybe the cleanest beer i have made. Still a little yeast in suspension, but very very drinkable. It is light enough its shocking that it right at 7%, oh well. Ill update once more after the one aging in the bright tank clears up. 4.75 gallons in bright...

First Lager - few post fermentation ?'s

I think i'm going to transfer this weekend. Its my first lager, and the ales i brew with starter and aeration usually are done in a week, cold crash, keg, wait two weeks, drink. I can see why ales are so much more popular. My original plan was 2-3 days diacytel rest, then transfer to my...

First Lager - few post fermentation ?'s

Hey guys, i asked a few questions about my first lager, a marzen (my favorite style of beer). Its been 3.5 agonizing weeks and i have been steady at 1.012 for about 5 days, i have just raised my temp to 63 for a diacetyl rest, its been there for just under 2 days. I was wondering how long...

    Yikes - Violent fermentation

Thanks, i am going to secondary on Saturday (1 week). I am hoping to put the airlock in tonight. Remove the bucket from the ferm chamber and try to do a little cleaning. I am so OCD it is scary, it is bothering me that the bucket is messy. Even more so that the bottom of the ferm chamber is...

    Yikes - Violent fermentation

Well, i am making a german altbier, brewing process very very uneventful, shooting for 1054, hit 1052. All Grain. It was kind of cool lower fifties, and we were concerned because the wyeast pouch didnt swell as much as normal. Pitched in 65 degree beer. This morning it was bubbling like...

    fermentation strange

I can't use the refractometer except at the beginning? Update I recalibrated and I was off just over 5 gravity points. So I'm guessing around 1.015 I was expecting 1.012 per beerSmith. I think I will just wait another week and take another reading. Can I ask why you can't use your...

    fermentation strange

All grain Dunkel weizen started at 1.054 it's stalled at 1.021. It was at 1.023 when I transferred so in two weeks it's moved very little. Thinking about heating it up to seventy and seeing if it dries out. 1 week at 65 Transferred to secondary 2 weeks at 63 Gravity hasn't moved. Thinking...

    mash with steep of specialty

Hey guys, i am about 8 brews in and i am back for some questions.. I am going to be making a dunkelweizen, but i have been hearing on a few podcasts about steeping the specialty malt after mashing the base malts. Supposed to help with the bitter/off flavors. Has anyone tried this? 4.5...

    Lager Stuck At 1.020

I had this same problem with my first three batches. Someone gave me this advice last four have worked fine. Sterilize a whisk. When you reach temperature whisk the s**t out of it for a minute. Then pitch your yeast. Since i started doing this i have never not gotten below 1.012 before i...

    Thanks

Thank goodness I was afraid of cardboard beer, whatever that is it sounds horrible!

    Thanks

I thought i should only worry about oxidation post fermentation? the whisking took place immediately following the boil. Am i incorrect in this thinking? If so, i will drink said cardboard beer with pride, and withdraw my thanks.

    Thanks

I have unsubscribed and can't find it (laziness). I had a problem with high finishing gravity. Someone said i need to aerate, and i explained i poured back and forth a few times. Which wasn't working. Some poster said to "Whisk the crap out of it for a minute" (paraphrase) This worked...
